About Dr. Gail

Thank you for visiting my website today.  I’m Dr. Gail Maurer and my counseling practice is located in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.  I am happy to serve people from all walks of life in Hot Springs Village, as well as those living in surrounding areas, for their mental health and wellness needs.

If you are an older adult facing transition in life, you have come to the right place.  My emphasis is on working with adults as they age to navigate the challenges that occur throughout the life cycle.  I find there are many people who need help and support but who do not know where to get it.  Has there been a big change in your life?  Do you feel anxious, depressed, or unresolved about an issue that you just don’t know what to do about?  You have come to the right place.  When life has thrown you a curveball, I am someone that you can trust.  I am compassionate and I work collaboratively with you to get at the root of what’s bothering you.

I have both a master’s degree and a doctoral degree in Social Work from Rutgers University in New Jersey, with internships in aging and end-of-life care. I also have post master’s training in Expressive Art Therapy from Prescott College in Arizona, an invaluable therapeutic resource for my clients.

My professional work experience includes both clinical and administrative work in the settings of acute and long-term care, inpatient and outpatient mental health, along with hospice care. I am licensed as a clinical social worker in the states of Arkansas, Florida, Oregon, and Tennessee.

If you have served in the military, I am here to support you. I am an Air Force Veteran who understands how military life works and the needs of Veterans, military members, and their families.

My counseling approach is unique. I offer a collaborative, integrative, and strengths-based approach with my clients. Some of the ways in which I reach my clients are through cognitive-behavioral, trauma-informed, expressive art, sand tray, and mindfulness approaches that offer possibilities for insight and a better way of life.  I help you solve problems and use strategies that minimize daily stressors, realize strengths, and solve problems. I use both verbal and non-verbal approaches to help you deal with the problems you are currently facing. I use non-verbal approaches – such as those using art and the expressive arts – to help you explore your emotions, improve self-esteem, relieve stress, improve symptoms of anxiety and depression, and cope with health challenges and/or disability. I use verbal approaches – such as talking and reflecting back – to help you solidify thought processes so that you can make changes that support new ways of thinking about things along with the creation of healthier habits.

About Dr. Gail’s Clients

What does Gail have to offer you as a potential new client? First and foremost, I have a sense of urgency about your problems and what you are experiencing.  I offer you a safe place to sort out a confusing situation, process feelings, and access strategies that help you put distance from the past and move forward with a new life in the present. I help you figure out what the real problem is all about. I work with you to develop a strong working alliance and to create an individualized plan that supports problem-solving and change. I help you to get to the root of the matter and express feelings of ambiguity and of being stuck. I help you to feel supported as we work together to find answers that help you rediscover your inner strength and resilience. I guide you through the process of creating coping strategies that work for you that overcome difficult thoughts, feelings, emotions, and circumstances. I encourage you to make lifestyle decisions that bring change, a sense of relief, and hope for a happier and healthier future. I will help you find and get the things in life that you want most.
